September 1978 - Camp David Accords, Mork and Mindy

September 7 - Grandpa Goes to Washington tv series debuts on NBC.  Starring Jack Albertson as a U.S. senator, 10 episodes were broadcast, 11 were filmed.  

September 8 - The Eddie Capra Mysteries tv series debuts on NBC.

September 9 - Fabulous Funnies, Fantastic Four, Godzilla and Yogi's Space Race debut on NBC.  Fangface  debuts on ABC.  The All New Popeye Hour, The Paper Chase and Tarzan and the Super 7 debut on CBS.

September 10 - Kaz debuts on CBS.  Sword of Justice debuts on NBC.

September 12 - Taxi debuts on ABC.  Battle of the Planets debuts in syndication.

September 13 - W.E.B. debuts on NBC.

September 13 - Days of Heaven movie premieres.

September 14 - Mork and Mindy debuts on ABC.

September 15 - Up in Smoke movie premieres.

September 17 – Camp David Accords: Menachem Begin and Anwar Sadat begin the peace process at Camp David, Maryland.

September 17 - The 30th Primetime Emmy Awards were held.  All in the Family won best comedy series.  Rockford Files won best drama series.  Carroll O'Connor (All in the Family) won best comedy actor, Jean Stapleton (All in the Family) won best comedy actress, Edward Asner (Lou Grant) won best drama actor and Sada Thompson (Family) won best drama actress.

September 17 - Battlestar Galactica debuts on ABC.  Lifeline debuts on NBC.

September 18 - WKRP in Cincinnati debuts on CBS.  David Cassidy was offered the role of Dr. Johnny Fever, but turned it down.

September 19 - The chairs on which Archie and Edith Bunker sat through 8 seasons of the CBS comedy All in the Family are presented to the Smithsonian Institution.

September 22 - The Waverly Wonders and Who's Watching the Kids debut on NBC.

September 23 - Apple Pie debuts on ABC.  The American Girls debuts on CBS.

September 24 – Ruth Etting, singer, dies. (born 1897)

September 24 - Mary debuts on CBS.

September 25 - PSA Flight 182, a Boeing 727, collides with a small private airplane and crashes in San Diego, California; 144 are killed.

September 29 - Somebody Killed Her Husband and Death on the Nile movies premiere.
